Mirai Clinical, Swarva or KAKIORA: how to compare persimmon soaps before you buy

Mirai Clinical, Swarva or KAKIORA: how to compare persimmon soaps before you buy

Once people learn that persimmon (kaki) tannin is the ingredient used against nonenal, the next search is usually a brand name. Mirai Clinical is the best-known American brand. Swarva is widely advertised in the UK. KAKIORA is our own Japanese persimmon soap, shipped from the UK to customers in the US, the UK and Europe. This article is written by KAKIORA, so read it with that in mind. We have tried to keep it to things you can verify yourself on each brand's site.

The six things that actually matter

  1. Real persimmon extract. Check that persimmon or kaki extract is actually on the ingredient list, not just a persimmon fragrance. Brands rarely publish exact percentages, so be cautious of strong concentration claims.
  2. Moisturizing ingredients. Tannin is astringent. A bar for daily use on mature skin should pair it with oils or humectants. KAKIORA uses glycerin and skin-softening emollients in a soap-free base of coconut-derived cleansers.
  3. Scent. Lighter is better. Heavy fragrance masks odor and is the most common cause of skin reactions.
  4. Where it ships from. Delivery time, shipping cost and any import charges depend on where a brand ships from and where you live. KAKIORA ships from the UK with tracked delivery to the US: a flat $3 on one-time orders and free on every subscription order.
  5. Pack sizes and price per bar. A bar lasts about two weeks. Multi-packs bring the price per bar down; check whether shipping is free on the larger packs.
  6. Refund policy. Nonenal is not everyone's problem. A brand that offers a money-back period is taking the risk for you. KAKIORA refunds within 60 days.

Mirai Clinical

Mirai Clinical is a US company and has done more than anyone to make nonenal a known word in English. Its persimmon soap is well regarded. If you are in the US, it is a reasonable choice; compare it on the six points above, including where each brand ships from and the delivery estimate to your address.

Swarva

Swarva markets persimmon soap heavily to UK audiences through social media. As with any brand, check that kaki extract is actually on the ingredient list, what moisturizers are included, how strongly it is scented, and what the returns policy says. Many people searching "Swarva soap" are looking for reviews; the honest advice is to read the critical reviews rather than the five-star ones, for any brand including ours.

Kakiyu and Nykora

Two other names that come up in searches are Kakiyu and Nykora. Both sell persimmon soap online, mostly through marketplaces and social media. We have no reason to doubt either, and the same six-point check applies: whether kaki extract is actually on the ingredient list, which moisturizers are included, how strongly the bar is scented, where it ships from, the price per bar on the pack you would buy, and what the returns policy says. Reviews for smaller brands are thin, so weight the two and three-star ones and look for people describing the effect after two weeks rather than the unboxing.

KAKIORA

KAKIORA is a Japanese persimmon tannin bar with a gentle, soap-free base of coconut-derived cleansers, glycerin and skin-softening emollients, lightly scented, sold in 2, 3 and 6-bar packs. It ships from the UK to customers across the US with tracked delivery: flat $3 shipping on one-time orders, free shipping on subscriptions and a 60-day money-back promise. It is aimed at daily use on the nonenal hot spots: neck, behind the ears, chest, back and scalp.

How to run your own comparison in five minutes

  • Find each brand's full ingredient list, on the product page, on the pack or by asking the brand. Check that kaki or persimmon extract is actually listed.
  • Note the delivery country of origin and the delivery estimate to your address.
  • Work out the price per bar on the pack you would actually buy, including shipping.
  • Read the refund policy.
  • Check for any medical-sounding claims. A soap should say it helps wash away odor, not that it treats a condition. Brands that overclaim on one thing tend to overclaim on others.

Bottom line

All three brands are selling the same idea: tannin to help wash away nonenal. The differences are formulation, where they ship from, price per bar and what happens if it does not work for you. Wherever you live, those last three usually decide it. Whatever you choose, use it daily for at least two weeks before judging, because nonenal builds back up every day. Our article on whether persimmon soap really works explains what to expect in those first two weeks.
